Euro Montage Monday Oct, 2019

October 14, 2019 by J&J 4 Comments

This is a very special Montage Monday, because it includes TONS AND TONS of photos from our second half of our Euro-holiday. I have been meaning to post this for a week, but both Jake and I got hit hard with a nasty virus infection and are still not fully recovered. Thankfully we had some very excellent adventures in France, Italy and Switzerland (sans-illness) and met some ABSOLUTELY AMAZING people, along with our super fantastic friends who made the trip one that we will never forget. Eventually I will tell the full story, but for now here is a little glimpse into our world.

Brittany, France

Our time in Brittany went by way too fast. We found it easy to fall into the rhythm of life here and see tons of gorgeous, photo-worthy places. Some of our favorites included a couple of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, one of which is the oldest human-made structure on the planet; built some 6500 years ago! (I'm talking pre-pyramids and Jesus). The coastal areas were always a treat as were the many old ruins and abbeys that we stumbled upon.

Climbing the Dolomites in Italy

How we ended up in Italy is a story worthy of its own posts (coming soon). In short, our fantastic friends surprised us with an experience that we will likely NEVER EVER forget. It was the perfect adventure in its beauty and equally terrifying and harrowing plight that we all managed to survive, and come away with some spectacular photos too!

Venice, Italy

With its gondolas, canals, amazing restaurants, and unforgettable romantic ambiance, Venice is definitely a city unlike any other. Waterfront palazzos, palaces, and churches make drifting down each alley as though we were transported into a painting. We enjoyed getting lost and especially the boat ride in the Venetian Lagoon to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello! We even got up close to the world's largest (and most expensive) sailing yacht!

Bern & Lucerne, Switzerland

With only 24 hours we had to be efficient with our time in Switzerland, so we hired a car. Somehow we managed to see Lucerne (in an hour) and the capital city, Bern. It was jam-packed but totally worth the trip. Some favorites included Chapel Bridge and Water Tower of Lucern and exploring the capital streets of Bern. Fun fact, did you know that Bern is related to New Bern, NC (our boat-home)?

Alsace, France

The last month of our Euro-Adventures were spent mostly in the Alsacian region, which is just on the German and Swiss borders of France. Our friends showed us what true French hospitality looks like, and its the best we have ever experience. These two had us going from dawn until dusk, but we had such a blast and fell in love with their sweet kitten, whom we would like to cat-nap upon first chance ;)

Mulhouse, Colmar and Keysersberg were some top-sites along with tons of French-customary cuisine, a pizza cook-off, saving the planet (broforce!), a red-carpet movie premier and a magic show! We were so immersive in French culture and by the time we left we could almost say a dozen things in proper French! ;)

Wow we absolutely love to see all of these photos. It looks like you guys had such an amazing time on your trip. The photos in Venice are particularly wonderful, we visited the fishing village also and found it to be one of our favorite places. Were the crowds bad in Venice? Thanks for sharing!

Aww thanks Kathy! Venice was very crowded during the day, we tried to limit ourselves to early morning and late evening explorations, which was so much better. Thank you for the compliment to our photos.
