What does it mean to be home?

home

I (Jill) am finding myself asking this question more and more as we count down the days to our Colorado departure; Our home for over a decade. It brings tears to my eyes as I'm writing...this place will no longer be my home. Nothing is definite but one thing is certain; There is no "going back."

I love Colorado. I love the mountains. And the fresh air. I love the simplicity of the towns that I've called my backyard for these many years. I love knowing all of the little intricacies of this place like the back of my hand. There is comfort here. There is security here. I'm taking a huge leap in leaving behind a truly great life in hopes to find something better. Myself.

There's a longing that I've been feeling for years that perhaps this is not the place for me after all. I've been feeling the pull of something different and new. Some place different. I have never been sure what or where exactly that place is. Maybe it doesn't even exist? Then doubt creeps in.

Even though we have our boat (officially!) and we are closing on the sale of our house in 2 days, I am terrified of having no "Home." And I don't mean the physical structure that holds my personal belongings. I mean the place that has given me a decade of life-experiences, friendships, hobbies, beauty and love that I will cherish forever. The place of comfort and security and one that I know like the back of my hand. That feeling of Home is what I know I will miss more than anything in the next several weeks, maybe even months. But its time to embrace a future unknown and reap the rewards of life on the slow seas. Maybe "Home" will take on a new meaning.

That was a tear-jerker. It would be hard for most folks I know to leave Boulder. But your adventure is so unbelievably cool! And there's always the option to come back. We will miss you guys SO MUCH.

I think that now as time gets closer to actually departing we are both more ready to go than ever...the waiting is the hardest part!
